Important update: CareerFoundry ceased operations on February 28, 2026 and is no longer enrolling students. If you landed here comparing all three schools, that comparison no longer exists — so this article has been rewritten to cover what’s actually available now, and what to do if CareerFoundry was on your shortlist.

The 30-second answer

Springboard is a multi-vertical tech school — UX sits alongside data science, software engineering, and cybersecurity. Choose it if you want breadth, a large mentor network, and the option to pivot to another tech track.

Path Unbound is design-only. Choose us if you want depth in design specifically, visual design foundations from day one, and a dedicated portfolio module. We’re a poor fit if you’re still deciding between UX and data analytics — a multi-vertical school genuinely serves you better there.

If CareerFoundry was your pick: what you liked was probably the structured, self-paced format with dual mentorship. Springboard is the closest structural match. We’ve written a fuller guide at CareerFoundry alternatives, including what to do if you were mid-program when it closed.

What happened to CareerFoundry

CareerFoundry was, for close to a decade, one of the most-recommended UX bootcamps — a Berlin-based school with a global student base offering UI, UX, web development, data analytics, and digital marketing programs. In early 2026 the company announced it was winding down, and operations ceased on February 28, 2026. The specific reasons haven’t been fully disclosed publicly.

We’re not going to pretend this is good news for anyone. Students mid-program lost continuity, and it’s a reminder worth sitting with: a school being large and well-reviewed is not the same as a school being permanently stable. Before you pay any program — including ours — it’s fair to ask how long they’ve operated, whether they’re profitable, and what happens to your access if they shut down.

Springboard vs. Path Unbound: course offerings

Springboard

Springboard runs career tracks across the tech spectrum — UI/UX design, data science, software engineering, cybersecurity, data analytics, and machine learning. The UX track covers user research, wireframing, and prototyping.

The breadth is the real advantage. If you’re not certain design is the right career, a school that also teaches data analytics gives you somewhere to go.

Path Unbound

We only teach design. That’s a deliberate limitation, and it cuts both ways.

Tuition

Path Unbound — our full pricing is published on the tuition page:

  • School of UI/UX Design: $7,080 all-in. No hidden fees.
  • Portfolio School: from $2,100 as a standalone module.
  • On-demand membership: $29/mo (Saver) or $49/mo (Advanced). Instructor sessions are $120/hr on the basic plan and $90/hr on advanced.
  • Scholarships can reduce tuition by up to 30%.

Springboard publishes tuition that has historically fallen in the mid-four-figure to high-four-figure range depending on track, with deferred and monthly payment options. Bootcamp pricing changes often — verify current figures directly on Springboard’s site before you budget. We won’t quote a number we can’t stand behind.

Instructional model

Springboard is self-paced with flexible timelines, weekly 1-on-1 mentor sessions, and project-based assignments. Mentors are drawn from a large pool.

Path Unbound gives you a weekly 1:1 with a consistent senior designer — the same person throughout, not a rotating pool. You also choose your own instructor from a vetted, teaching-first roster rather than being assigned one. If you value continuity and someone who remembers your last three critiques, that’s the difference. If you’d rather sample many perspectives, a larger mentor network may suit you better.

Portfolio support

This is where we differ most. Most programs — Springboard included — treat the portfolio as a capstone at the end of the curriculum. We built a separate module dedicated to it, because a portfolio is what actually gets you interviewed, and one capstone project rarely carries a job search.

Our placement rate is 92.5%, measured across graduates of completed cohorts at time-to-employment. We state the methodology because placement numbers without one aren’t worth much.

Which should you choose?

Choose Springboard if you want a large, established multi-vertical school, you’re not fully committed to design as a career, or you want the option to switch tracks.

Choose Path Unbound if you’re committed to design specifically, you want visual design foundations rather than UX process alone, you need dedicated portfolio work, and you want a consistent 1:1 mentor you picked yourself.

Choose neither if your budget is tight and you’re not sure design is right for you. Start with our $29/mo membership or a free course and find out cheaply before committing thousands.

FAQ

Is CareerFoundry still operating in 2026?

No. CareerFoundry ceased operations on February 28, 2026 and no longer enrolls students. If you were considering it, see our CareerFoundry alternatives guide.

What happens to my certificate if a bootcamp shuts down?

In practice, a bootcamp certificate carries little weight with hiring managers either way — your portfolio does the work. That’s the real lesson from CareerFoundry’s closure: invest in artifacts you own and control, not credentials that depend on a company continuing to exist.

Is Springboard or Path Unbound better for career changers?

Both are built for career changers. Springboard suits you better if you’re still choosing between tech fields. Path Unbound suits you better if you’ve settled on design and want depth — particularly visual design foundations, which most UX-only bootcamps skip.

How do I avoid picking a bootcamp that might close?

There’s no guarantee, but you can lower the risk: ask how long the school has operated, whether it’s venture-funded or profitable, whether course materials remain accessible after completion, and what the refund policy covers. Any school that won’t answer those plainly is telling you something.
