What Happened
CareerFoundry has permanently ceased operations.
On February 28, 2026, CareerFoundry formally shut down as part of insolvency proceedings filed in Germany. Their official statement confirms no new courses are being offered and existing programs will not continue. Selected intellectual property was sold to a separate company (CF Training GmbH) that has stated it will not continue CareerFoundry’s programs or provide student support.
If you were mid-enrollment, your course access has ended. If you were about to start, you’ll need a new path. If CareerFoundry was simply on your research shortlist — this is the moment to evaluate what actually matters in a design school. We’ve tried to make that easier below.
For CareerFoundry students
Your design education doesn't have to start over.
If CareerFoundry’s closure interrupted your program, we’d like to help you continue without losing the ground you’ve already covered. Book a free Design Career Clarity Session — we’ll review what you’ve built so far, assess where you are honestly, and tell you which Path Unbound track gets you to your goal fastest. No pressure to enroll. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll say so.

What the closure exposed
What design students actually needed — and didn't get.
This isn’t about blaming CareerFoundry. It’s about being honest about what prospective students deserve to evaluate in any program — including ours.
1
Portfolio outcomes over credential promises
A certificate matters far less than a portfolio that gets you hired. Programs that prioritize completion metrics over real portfolio quality leave graduates underprepared — regardless of what a job guarantee says in the fine print.
2
Curriculum built by designers at the top of their field
Design moves fast. A curriculum authored by practitioners who are actively working — not by curriculum teams at a remove from the industry — stays relevant longer and teaches to real hiring standards, not outdated frameworks.
3
A school that's built to last
VC-backed bootcamps burn brightly and close suddenly. When you invest thousands of dollars and months of your life in a program, you deserve a school with a sustainable model — not one racing to grow users faster than its runway.
4
Mentorship that isn't a lottery
At scale-focused bootcamps, who you get as a mentor determines everything — and quality was inconsistent. Former CareerFoundry mentors reported on Glassdoor that mentor hours were quietly cut while students paid the same rate. Graduates described mentors approving portfolio work with visible errors. Your education shouldn’t depend on luck of the draw.
5
A portfolio that doesn't look like everyone else's
Hiring managers report that bootcamp graduates are immediately identifiable — not as a compliment. Cookie-cutter case studies, identical project structures, formulaic UX process walkthroughs: these are the “tells” that get applications skipped. A program that teaches to a template produces portfolios that look like the template. Portfolio differentiation has to be taught, not assumed.
6
Honest terms, not job guarantee theater
Job guarantees are marketing. The fine print of most bootcamp guarantees involves eligibility criteria, application quotas, and conditions that most graduates can’t fulfill. What predicts outcomes is portfolio strength, mentorship quality, and how well the program prepares you for real interviews.

Common questions
Questions from CareerFoundry students — and honest answers.
I was mid-program with CareerFoundry. Can I transfer my progress to Path Unbound?
We don’t have a formal credit transfer system — CareerFoundry ran a different curriculum — but we offer a free Design Career Clarity Session where we’ll look honestly at where you are, what you’ve built, and which Path Unbound track gives you the fastest path to your goal. Many career changers are further along than they think, and we’ll tell you plainly what you need versus what you don’t.
Path Unbound doesn't offer a job guarantee. Doesn't that mean it's a weaker program?
We’d argue the opposite. Job guarantees at most bootcamps are conditional reimbursement policies, not employment promises. They typically require you to submit a minimum number of applications, accept any offer above a salary threshold, and complete a job search within a strict window — conditions that most graduates can’t meet. We’ve chosen to invest that energy into curriculum quality, portfolio feedback, and genuine mentorship instead, which is what actually predicts hiring outcomes.
Is Path Unbound self-paced? I need flexibility around my current job.
Yes — all of our programs are self-paced, so you study on your own schedule. What we layer on top is structured mentorship with milestone check-ins, giving you accountability and directional feedback without requiring you to show up at a fixed time each week. The Working Designer track within Portfolio School is specifically designed for people studying alongside full-time employment.
How can I trust Path Unbound won't close like CareerFoundry did?
It’s a fair question, and the structural differences matter. Path Unbound is independently operated, designer-led, and not VC-backed — which is precisely what makes us different from a school like CareerFoundry. We’re boutique by design and sustainable by structure. There’s no runway pressure, no growth-at-all-costs incentive, and no investors to answer to over the heads of our students. Founders running a school they’re personally invested in behave differently than operators running a startup they’re trying to scale.
Who actually teaches at Path Unbound?
Our instructors are practicing UI/UX designers at the top of their field — not curriculum writers or edtech veterans. The portfolio and design feedback you receive comes from people who are actively navigating the same industry they’re teaching you to enter. That’s a deliberate founding principle reflected in how we select and onboard every instructor on the team.
I'm a complete beginner with no design background. Is Path Unbound right for me?
It depends on your situation, timeline, and how you learn. That’s exactly what the free Design Career Clarity Session is for. We’d rather spend 30 minutes having an honest conversation than have you enroll in something that isn’t the right fit. If one of our programs is right for you, we’ll tell you which one and why. If it isn’t, we’ll tell you that too.
Final Step
Ready to actually launch your design career attending a quality program?
